Amphetaminum sulfuricum

Amphetaminum sulphuricum; Amphetamine sulfate; bis(1-phenylpropan-2-amine) sulfate / (RS)-1-phenylpropan-2-amine sulfate (2:1); CAS 60-13-9; PubChem CID 6055; molecular formula C18H28N2O4S · Amphetamine sulphate, racemic (dl-) amphetamine sulfate, "speed" (illicit street form), Benzedrine (historical brand of the sulfate salt)

Modern MM
A modern, sparsely documented remedy whose sphere of action is inferred from amphetamine toxicology: the central nervous system and sympathetic system — a state of excessive stimulation, sleeplessness, restlessness, racing mind, and, at the extreme, paranoid/agitated psychosis with collapse following over-excitation.

Key symptoms

There are NO proving-derived keynotes for this remedy. By analogy with the well-documented toxicology of amphetamine sulfate (Law of Similars), the corresponding state would be: intense restlessness and inability to keep still; insomnia with a racing, overactive mind; loss of appetite; tremor; rapid pulse and palpitation; dilated pupils; flushing and overheating; talkativeness and excitement progressing to anxiety, irritability and aggression; and, in extreme states, paranoid delusions and hallucinations resembling schizophrenia, followed by exhaustion and collapse. These are toxicological correspondences (StatPearls; FDA/DailyMed), not verified homeopathic symptoms.

Worse (aggravation)

Better (amelioration)

Source & Nature

Amphetaminum sulfuricum is the homeopathic potentization of amphetamine sulfate, the sulfuric-acid salt of racemic (RS)-amphetamine. It is a synthetic central-nervous-system stimulant of the substituted-phenethylamine class (molecular formula C18H28N2O4S; CAS 60-13-9; PubChem CID 6055), in which two molecules of amphetamine base are combined with one sulfate anion. Pharmacologically the parent drug acts mainly on the norepinephrine and dopamine systems as a releasing agent and reuptake inhibitor, producing arousal, wakefulness, appetite suppression and euphoria. It was historically sold as Benzedrine and remains a controlled prescription medicine (ADHD, narcolepsy) as well as a common illicit stimulant.
