PubChem CID 5879; CAS 53-41-8; molecular formula C19H30O2; molecular weight 290.4 g/mol. · Androsterone, Androsteronum, 3-alpha-hydroxy-5-alpha-androstan-17-one

Modern MM
A modern endocrine (androgen-hormone) preparation with no formal proving. Its presumptive sphere of action is the male/androgen hormonal axis — virilization, libido, and androgen-deficiency states — inferred from the known physiology of androsterone and its parent androgens. Used almost exclusively within multi-substance combination formulations rather than as a single classical remedy.

Key symptoms

No keynotes derived from a homeopathic proving exist. The only rational basis for use is the substance's known endocrine action as a weak androgen and testosterone/DHT metabolite: i.e. theoretical application in androgen-related or hormonal-imbalance states (used organotherapeutically/isopathically). Any symptom-based prescribing indications would require a formal proving that has not been conducted.

Worse (aggravation)

No proving-derived or reliably sourced modalities exist for this remedy.

Better (amelioration)

Androsterone, Androsteronum, 3-alpha-hydroxy-5-alpha-androstan-17-one

Source & Nature

Androsteronum is the homeopathic preparation of androsterone, an endogenous human androgen (C19 steroid hormone). It is a weak androgen — about one-seventh as potent as testosterone — and a metabolite of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone. Chemical identity: molecular formula C19H30O2, molecular weight 290.4 g/mol, CAS 53-41-8, PubChem CID 5879, IUPAC name 3α-hydroxy-5α-androstan-17-one. Androsterone was first isolated in 1931 by Butenandt and Tscherning from male urine. It is a normal constituent of human urine, skin and blood, also acting as a GABA-A neurosteroid and as a musky-smelling, putative pheromone compound.
