Cinnabaris is best suited to people who are nervous, uneasy, sad, weak, and weary. They do not want to use their brains, and may become forgetful, often feeling that their heads are “full” from mental use. At night  a stream of constantly changing thoughts  runs through their heads. They are usually sensitive to touch and to the slightest noise, preferring to be left alone.

This remedy has a classic affinity with genital and rectal ulceration and warts, and its profile is similar to that of Merc. sol. (see page 85). Key symptoms include fiery red ulcers on the skin and the mucous membranes, warts that bleed easily, pimples, pustules, and red skin eruptions that tend to itch violently.

The head is a focus for other symptoms  that may be helped by the remedy. These include headaches with congestion; red, inflamed eyes; catarrh in the nose and throat; and a dry, sore throat. Sleep patterns may be disrupted, with noticeable restlessness and sleeplessness, although there is often a marked lack of tiredness.

Cinnabaris may also be used to treat women  who experience very painful menstruation and pregnancy, or great pains during labor.

  • warts
  • Very fiery-red

Worse (aggravation)

The symptoms are worse at night from warmth of the bed, and when perspiring, like Mercurius. Worse from both heat and cold,

Catarrhal inflammation. Fig warts (Thuja). Ulcers. Many complaints from eating. Syphilis in all stages. Suppurating glands; chancres. It is best to study this remedy as a form of Mercurius, which has a few cunning phases of its own. It is a deep acting remedy in sycosis

The patient desires to be alone. Aversion to mental work. Forgets things which he intended to do. Mind crowded with thoughts preventing sleep.

The pains in the head are violent; worse after eating; better by heat and pressure. Fullness in the whole head. Constriction. Pain in the cold forehead, which is ameliorated by heat. Tearing in the forehead before the menstrual flow. Pain in the forehead and vertex in the morning, worse lying on the left side and back, ameliorated lying on the right side, and it passes off after rising.

Characteristics

Cinnabar. corresponds to sycosis as well as to syphilis, and to combinations of the two. In warts on the prepuce it is more specific than Thuja; especially for fan-shaped warts. In the mental sphere there is indolence and indisposition to mental labour. Forgetful. Fretful, easily provoked. Headache with nosebleed. General sensitiveness to touch: bones of skull, scalp, roots of hair; bridge of nose; warts bleed when touched. Sensation on bridge of nose as if touched with metallic substance, uneasy creeping and pressing sensation about nasal bones as from wearing spectacles when not used to them.
