The remedy presents a picture of circulatory disturbance with heavy vertiginous head symptoms suggesting cerebral congestion. The patient cannot tolerate lying flat and is disturbed by perspiration, especially on the thighs at night. The apoplectic head sensation was ameliorated by coffee.

Key symptoms

  • Enormous weight in the head with vertigo as if apoplexy impending
  • Right-sided early morning headache better on rising
  • Dyspnoea worse lying in bed
  • Compression of the whole chest in the evening
  • Intolerance of weight of coverlet on the chest
  • Coldness of the thighs with copious general nocturnal sweat
  • Sense of tension in the region of the cerebellum

Worse (aggravation)

  • Lying down aggravates dyspnoea
  • Weight or touch on the chest
  • Right side (headache worse on right, especially before dawn)

Better (amelioration)

  • Coffee ameliorated the apoplectic head sensation
  • Rising from bed relieved the morning headache
