Source & Nature
VINCRISTINUM is the homeopathic preparation of vincristine, a dimeric (bisindole) vinca alkaloid isolated from the Madagascar/rosy periwinkle, Catharanthus roseus (formerly Vinca rosea). It is a potent cytotoxic chemotherapy drug (brand name Oncovin), first isolated in 1961 and FDA-approved in 1963. Molecular formula C46H56N4O10; CAS 57-22-7; PubChem CID 5978. The pharmaceutical form is usually the sulfate salt, given intravenously in combination chemotherapy regimens for leukaemias, lymphomas and several solid tumours.
Preparation
Made from the drug substance (vincristine sulfate) by trituration with lactose to the soluble stage, followed by serial centesimal dilution and succussion per the Hahnemannian method. Owing to the substance's cytotoxicity, only high attenuations far beyond any material dose are used. Available on request from specialist pharmacies that prepare drug-substance remedies; it is not a routine stock remedy.
