Modern MM
Sphere of action centres on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal stress axis: adrenocortical/glucocorticoid pathology with oedema and upper-body adipose infiltration, carbohydrate disturbance (glycosuria), dry/thin pruritic skin, an epigastric/respiratory focus, and a stress-related mental picture of depression, anxiety and mood lability with sleep disturbance.

Key symptoms

Oedema and adipose (fatty) infiltration especially of the upper part of the body; epigastric constriction; pruritus with dry, thin skin (itching of hands and knees); renal glycosuria; pulmonary emphysema. Mentally: dullness and depression, anxiety when alone with a forsaken feeling, weak memory with word/spelling confusion, mood alternating between timid and irritable, and sleep disturbance as a clinical focus. (Toxicologically the generals mirror cortisol/Cushingoid excess; the mental and particular symptoms derive from the 1956 Templeton proving as carried in pharmacy monographs.)

Worse (aggravation)

Morning; coughing, walking and standing; cough worst from about 10 a.m. to midday; nausea from milk and fats. [Modalities as carried in homeopathic pharmacy monographs derived from the Templeton-era proving picture (Schwabe, Homeomart).]

Better (amelioration)

Afternoon (as recorded in pharmacy monographs derived from the proving picture). Otherwise few ameliorating modalities are documented in the available sourced material.

Source & Nature

Adrenocorticotrophinum is the homeopathic preparation of corticotropin (ACTH), the 39-amino-acid peptide hormone of the anterior pituitary gland (a cleavage product of pro-opiomelanocortin). Physiologically it stimulates the adrenal cortex to produce and release glucocorticoids, chiefly cortisol, and is a central effector of the body's stress response. Molecular formula C207H308N56O58S (PubChem CID 16132265). It is classed among the hormone/sarcode remedies.

Preparation

Prepared from the hormone by trituration and serial centesimal dilution with succussion in the usual homeopathic manner. Available commercially as dilutions and medicated pills in potencies such as 6C, 30C, 200C, 1M (and higher, e.g. 10M).
