Fluoxetinum hydrochloricum

Fluoxetine hydrochloride; N-methyl-3-phenyl-3-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]propan-1-amine hydrochloride; LY-110140 · Prozac, Sarafem, Fluoxetin HCl (the active ingredient of the SSRI antidepressant Prozac)

Modern MM
A modern drug remedy made from the SSRI Prozac. There is NO formal homeopathic proving on record; the sphere of action is inferred entirely from the drug's known pharmacology and toxicology — chiefly the central nervous system, mood/affect, sleep and sexual function. Use is therefore tentative and similimum-based, not symptomatologically established.

Key symptoms

No keynotes have been established by proving. Any indications are extrapolated by the Law of Similars from the documented drug action: states of serotonergic over-stimulation — anxiety, nervousness, agitation, restlessness and insomnia (fluoxetine being the most "activating" SSRI); emotional flatness/indifference and decreased libido; tremor, sweating and yawning. (Fluoxetine itself carries a comparatively low discontinuation-syndrome risk, so withdrawal-state indications are weaker than for shorter-acting SSRIs.) These are drug-effect inferences, not verified remedy symptoms.

Worse (aggravation)

Not established. No proving-derived or reliably recorded modalities exist for this remedy.

Better (amelioration)

Not established. No proving-derived or reliably recorded modalities exist for this remedy.

Source & Nature

FLUOXETINUM HYDROCHLORICUM is the homeopathic preparation of fluoxetine hydrochloride, the active substance of the SSRI antidepressant Prozac (Eli Lilly code LY-110140, CAS 56296-78-7, PubChem CID 62857, formula C17H19ClF3NO, MW 345.79). Chemically it is the hydrochloride salt of N-methyl-3-phenyl-3-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]propan-1-amine.

It belongs to the modern class of drug-substance remedies and acts pharmacologically as a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, blocking the presynaptic serotonin transporter and raising synaptic serotonin.
