Source & Nature
Ibuprofenum is the homeopathic preparation of ibuprofen, a synthetic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the propionic-acid class. Molecular formula C13H18O2, molecular weight 206.28 g/mol, CAS 15687-27-1, PubChem CID 3672 (racemate).
It is a modern drug/commercial-substance remedy. The parent drug is a globally used over-the-counter analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory agent that acts by non-selective inhibition of cyclo-oxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2), reducing prostaglandin synthesis.
Preparation
Prepared from pure racemic ibuprofen. As the substance is poorly water-soluble, lower stages are made by trituration with lactose, then carried up by serial dilution and succussion in ethanol-water; globules use a saccharose carrier. Marketed by homeopathic pharmacies (e.g. Remedia) as Ibuprofenum in a wide range of decimal (D), centesimal (C) and Korsakovian (K) potencies, C30 being among those commonly stocked.
