Kaolinum is especially indicated for croupous inflammation seated in the lower portion of the larynx or upper part of the trachea, recognized by laboring and sawing respiration. The internal soreness along the trachea with the child refusing to be touched is the leading clinical indication. It is useful in capillary bronchitis and membranous croup where Aconite, Hepar, Spongia, Bromium, Phosphorus, and Iodine have failed.

Key symptoms

  • Membranous croup extending down the trachea
  • Internal soreness along trachea, child refuses to be touched
  • Capillary bronchitis with soreness of chest
  • Itching and burning of nose with yellow, sore, scabby discharge
  • Larynx and chest sore with gray sputa
  • Labouring and sawing respiration indicating lower larynx involvement

Worse (aggravation)

  • Touch and percussion of the chest

"It seems to be especially indicated where the croupous inflammation has its seat in the lower portion of the larynx or upper part of the trachea, which may be recognised by the much more labouring and sawing respiration."
