Lobelia dortmanna is indicated in persons with violent headaches that initiate a sequence ending in colic and diarrhoea, with subsequent relief of chronic complaints. It has a strong action on the ears (roaring noises) and the digestive tract, particularly the pyloric region.

Key symptoms

  • Violent headache lasting all day for a fortnight ending in severe colic and diarrhoea
  • Old cough disappears after the crisis of headache and diarrhoea
  • Roaring noises in ears worse on lying down and in early morning
  • Habitual indigestion with no power to digest (cured by single dose)
  • Pains of pyloric cancer relieved for an afternoon after one dose
  • Burning as of a red-hot poker and shootings in rectum generally worse at night

Worse (aggravation)

  • Lying down (roaring in ears)
  • Night (rectal burning)

Characteristics

I am indebted to Cooper for the whole of the information about this remedy. The symptoms of the Schema were observed on patients after single doses of the Ø tincture allowed to exhaust their action. According to Cooper, Lob. d. has much in common with Lob. er. and Lob. i. The letters and figures appended to the symptoms denote the sex and age of the patients "m" means "man," "w" "woman."

2. Head

Violent headache lasting all day goes on for a fortnight, ending in severe colic and diarrhœa; and then an old cough goes away (w. 56).
