Methotrexatum

Methotrexate; Amethopterin; (2S)-2-[(4-{[(2,4-Diaminopteridin-6-yl)methyl](methyl)amino}benzoyl)amino]pentanedioic acid · Methotrexate (MTX); Amethopterin; brand names Trexall, Rheumatrex, Otrexup

Modern MM
A modern drug remedy whose sphere of action is inferred from methotrexate's antifolate toxicology: the rapidly dividing tissues — oral and gastrointestinal mucosa, bone marrow/blood, skin and hair, liver. Proposed homeopathically to address the adverse effects of conventional methotrexate/chemotherapy under the Law of Similars; not derived from a proving.

Key symptoms

No keynotes from a homeopathic proving exist. Indications are inferred from documented drug toxicology and are tissue-based rather than mental/characteristic: painful mouth and throat ulceration (stomatitis/mucositis); sore, inflamed gastrointestinal lining with nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea; hair loss; skin rash; and the consequences of bone-marrow suppression (low white cells and platelets), with marked fatigue. These are spheres of action, not verified Hahnemannian keynotes, and must not be presented as proving symptoms.

Methotrexate (MTX); Amethopterin; brand names Trexall, Rheumatrex, Otrexup

Source & Nature

Methotrexatum is the homeopathic name for Methotrexate (MTX, formerly amethopterin), a synthetic antifolate antimetabolite used as a chemotherapy agent and immunosuppressant. Chemically it is 4-amino-N10-methyl folic acid, molecular formula C20H22N8O5, CAS 59-05-2, PubChem CID 126941. The remedy is prepared from the pharmaceutical drug substance.

Preparation

As an insoluble synthetic solid, it is triturated with lactose to C3/3X, then potentised by serial dilution and succussion (centesimal, with decimal/LM offered by some pharmacies). It is a prescription cytotoxic and is supplied only by specialist rare-remedy pharmacies, generally in 30C and higher potencies that contain no material drug. No mother tincture is used.
