Source & Nature
OESTRADIOLUM is the homeopathic preparation of estradiol (17β-estradiol, E2) — a C18 (estrane) steroid hormone, molecular formula C18H24O2, molecular weight 272.38 g/mol, CAS 50-28-2, PubChem CID 5757. It is the most potent of the three major human estrogens and the principal female sex hormone, secreted mainly by the ovarian granulosa cells.
Estradiol governs the female reproductive cycle and secondary sexual characteristics and acts additionally on bone, skin, cardiovascular and neural tissue. As a drug substance it is the active ingredient of menopausal hormone replacement therapy and feminizing hormone therapy, and its synthetic derivative ethinylestradiol is the estrogen used in most combined oral contraceptives. It should be distinguished from FOLLICULINUM, the homeopathic remedy of oestrone, a related but chemically distinct estrogen.
