Parathyroidinum

Parathyroidin; Parathyroid (gland sarcode); the physiological active principle is parathyroid hormone (PTH, parathormone), an 84-residue polypeptide (PTH 1-84) · Parathyroidinum, Parathyroidin, Parathyroid, Parathyroid gland (sarcode)

Modern MM
Sarcode acting on calcium-phosphorus metabolism and the neuromuscular system. Sphere centres on states reflecting parathyroid dysfunction: tetany, muscular cramps/spasm and twitching, and disturbances of bone/calcium balance (demineralisation, osteoporosis). Used as an organ-regulating remedy rather than on a classical symptom-picture, since no formal proving exists.

Key symptoms

Indications are toxicological/physiological (Law of Similars) and pharmacy-monograph-derived, NOT proving-derived keynotes: (1) Tetany — carpopedal spasm, muscular cramps, twitching and neuromuscular hyperexcitability associated with low calcium / parathyroid deficiency. (2) Muscle cramps and spasms attributed to disturbed calcium metabolism. (3) Disorders of bone and calcium balance — demineralisation, osteoporosis, brittle bones, calcium loss or deposition. (4) Used to help regulate calcium-phosphorus balance in both hypo- and hyper-parathyroid states. No mind/mental keynotes are documented — none should be inferred.

Worse (aggravation)

Not established by proving. No reliably sourced aggravation modalities exist for Parathyroidinum.

Better (amelioration)

Not established by proving. No reliably sourced amelioration modalities exist for Parathyroidinum.

Source & Nature

PARATHYROIDINUM (also Parathyroidin / Parathyroid) is a sarcode — a homeopathic preparation made from the healthy parathyroid glands of an animal (commercially usually bovine or ovine). It is not a plant or mineral but an endocrine-gland tissue remedy.

The physiologically active principle of the gland is parathyroid hormone (PTH, parathormone), a single-chain polypeptide of 84 amino acids secreted by the chief cells. PTH is the body's chief regulator of calcium and phosphate: it raises serum calcium by mobilising bone, increasing renal calcium reabsorption and activating vitamin D, while promoting phosphate excretion. Being gland-derived, the remedy has no single chemical formula or CAS number; the active N-terminal hormone fragment PTH(1-34)amide is catalogued at PubChem as CID 56841901 (molecular formula C181H292N56O50S2).
