Source & Nature
Progesteronum is the homeopathic preparation of progesterone, the endogenous progestogen steroid hormone (pregn-4-ene-3,20-dione; C21H30O2; MW 314.5; CAS 57-83-0; PubChem CID 5994). A cholesterol-derived C21 steroid, it is secreted mainly by the ovarian corpus luteum, the adrenal cortex, and the placenta during pregnancy. It also exists as the prescription drug 'micronized progesterone' (e.g. Prometrium).
In homeopathy it is also listed under Progesteron, Gelbkörperhormon (corpus luteum hormone) and Gestagen.
Preparation
Made by homeopathic potentization of progesterone. As the steroid is poorly water-soluble, low stages are prepared by trituration with lactose and/or solution in ethanol-water, followed by serial dilution and succussion. It is commercially available across the decimal (D/X), centesimal (C/CH), Korsakovian (K/MK) and LM/Q scales (Remedia: D12-D200, C6-C200, 1MK-100MK, LM1-LM30; Boiron: 4CH-30CH, 200K and higher Korsakovian).
