Source & Nature
Secretinum is the potentised form of secretin, a 27-amino-acid gastrointestinal peptide hormone of the secretin–glucagon–VIP superfamily, secreted by the enteroendocrine S cells of the duodenum in response to acidic chyme. Discovered by Bayliss and Starling in 1902, it stimulates pancreatic bicarbonate and water secretion, neutralising gastric acid in the duodenum, and decreases gastric acid secretion. Human secretin: C130H219N43O42, MW ≈ 3055 Da, PubChem CID 16129665. In homeopathy it is a sarcode — a remedy made from a healthy physiological secretion — grouped with Pancreatinum, Adrenalinum, Cholesterinum and Thyroidinum.
